Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired all…the…time?
Do you feel like no-one understands what you are going through?
Are you tired of the indifference you get not only from your friends and family, but your doctor too?
Do you hear comments like,
- “You’ve got a Thyroid problem…so what?”
- “It’s not like it’s a big deal or anything!”
- “You’re on medication, so you should feel fine!”
- “It’s not that bad”, or
- “Are you sure it’s not just all in your head?”
Or perhaps you’ve got the sympathetic friends who always look at you with pity in their eyes.
- “Oh you poor thing”, or
- “It must be awful to be you!”
Well, things are a little bit different here…
You won’t get indifference or sympathy from me. I’m here to offer courage, companionship and support!
I lived with chronic debilitating pain for 14 years, so I completely understand how it feels to be in pain, exhausted and feel like rubbish every…single…day. I was one of the lucky ones though. Using nutritional medicine, and with plenty of support and guidance, I managed to get off the painkillers and anti-depressants, and turn my life around.
Then my youngest daughter was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s the week of her 8th birthday. I was devastated.
Not being one to shy away from adversity, I decided to tackle it head on. I had to nurture my gorgeous girl back to health.
I soon realised just how common autoimmune diseases are, and how little support there really is for people and their families experiencing this – especially in rural areas. With the exception of those who have an autoimmune disease, or live with someone who does, no-one seems to understand or appreciate the impact it has on your life. The other great tragedy is that it is often only half treated by the medical profession. Whilst doctors are wonderful and can prescribe replacement hormones, they aren’t trained in nutrition or lifestyle modifications that can improve the outcome of these illnesses.
We began implementing an individualised protocol with our little one and could not believe the difference it made. We figured out what her dietary triggers were and removed them and Oh My Goodness! What a difference it made to her behaviour. Gone was the aggressive, violent and irrational child, and our beautiful, generous, caring little girl came back to us. We made sure her diet was as nutrient dense as possible, and supplemented where needed and could not believe how much she improved. Within 12 months, she had gone from being an angry, chronically constipated, irrational child who suffered severe chronic fatigue, to being an outgoing happy child picking up academic awards AND participating in afterschool and weekend sport!
